Vinka Ellesin - Yugoslav Folk Songs

Vinka Ellesin was one of the all time great Serbian American singers. Refered to as the "Queen of Sevdalinka", she performed and recorded with most of the great tamburitza musicians of the time.

This 78 rpm record album features the wonderful accompaniment of Steve Pavlekovich's tamburitza Orchestra.

  3. Milan,

I'm happy you're enjoying the site. I've had some things come up that have prevented me from updating it lately, but I hope to get back to it soon. I have a lot more records to add.

Unfortunately I don't know the exact date of these recordings, but I'd guess they were made ca 1950.

  6. Skozobar,

Like my neice's 'anonymous' posting, Stephanitza (Stella) Ellisen, sister of (Tete)Vinka, was my grandmother-in-law. Vinka's son, Lex, was the cousin of my father-in-law. Grandma (the absolute best baker in all the world) had all of her sister's albums and told countless stories of Vinka. I wish she had been living when i became a part of this wonderful family. Another Ellisen we're related to, Uncle Xander (Alexander)Ellisen is in the minor league of baseball hall of fame.

    Shozobar,
I was the one who wrote the comment a couple of years ago about my great grandma Stella Ellisen. Sorry I have not been able to contact you I did not see you replied. Currently my email is not working so well and won't compose emails.
Could you please comment back and tell me if you know who posted the comment January 31st of this year?! They say I'm their niece and I have been looking for other family from the Subich - Ellisen side. Everything they said about Stella's real name and Tete was true so I know we have to be related somehow!
My mom grew up around Grandma & Grandpa and she said Tete would visit often.
    Please comment back!!
    Thank you!

  9. Sorry, I don't know who any of these people are. Everyone comments anonymously so there is no way that I can reach them to ask any questions. I wish I could help.

  10. Audrey,

I got one of Tete Vinka's albums today for the first time from my Dede (Turkish for grandfather), Daniel Ellesin. She was his Aunt! When i got home i searched for her on the internet and this showed up, how exciting! Alex was my great grandfather. When I was about 4 or 5 I vaguely remember taking a trip to California to stay with my great great uncle Lex! I actually have pictures of my sister, my parents and I sitting in his hot tub with all his puppies running around us! My mother tells me stories of the family often, they were all very close. She was just telling me today that they had Christmas twice a year because every year in January Tete Vinka would come from California to stay with them and celebrate Serbian Christmas. We recently found 2 of her cookbooks also! I suppose you and I are very distant cousins! If you see this and want to talk more, my email address is hair_dresser_on_fire@yahoo.com. I'm sure we could share some fun family information!

  11. Vinka's voice is divine. I heard her first as a child in St. Louis.
